The Daily News

The Daily News is an American tabloid newspaper based in New York City. It has a long history of publishing in the tabloid format, and is notable for the pioneering work of its journalists in exposing the corrupt practices of the Tammany Hall Democratic machine in the 1930s. It has a liberal editorial bias. The Daily News is the largest newspaper in New York City and one of the most widely circulated newspapers in the United States. It has won numerous journalism awards, and its writers have been nominated for Pulitzer Prizes. The newspaper’s website has a wide variety of content, including national and local news, New York exclusives, politics, sports, and celebrity gossip.

The paper has a loyal readership and a reputation for factual reporting, despite being somewhat biased in its coverage of political events. In recent years it has aspired to be more liberal in its approach than its crosstown rival, the New York Post, and this has resulted in its adopting a more “no-holds-barred” style of journalism, which has not always been successful in maintaining its reputation for objectivity. Like all tabloids, it tends to focus on bold headlines and to engage in partisan polemics.

In the early 20th century, the Daily News sided with the Republican Party in its editorial policy and was strongly supportive of isolationism during World War II. From the 1950s through the 1960s, it shifted its stance to a more centrist position, but in the 1980s and beyond it became a more progressive tabloid. Its conservative roots are still evident in its fierce opposition to abortion rights and its support of the Iraq War, but it has since toned down these positions.

Like other newspapers, the Daily News has suffered from declining advertising revenue and a decrease in circulation due to the rise of digital media. The paper’s parent company, Tribune Publishing, has been taken over by the cost-cutting hedge fund Alden Global Capital LLC. Alden has already enacted a series of buyouts and layoffs at the Daily News.

As a consequence of these cuts, the newspaper has lost much of its local and regional authority. In addition, it has suffered from its editorial stance becoming more politically biased and its lack of focus on local stories.
